VMS HD Plat 11 build 283 crashes

stevem99 wrote on 12/14/2011, 3:28 PM
Build 256 was working fine with my current project. I upgraded to build 283 and now
immediately after the project loads the tracks on the timeline, it presents me with a window that says VMS has stopped working and do I want to send a report. Does anyone have any ideas before I uninstall and revert back to build 256? Thanks.

PS - I did send a report.

I guess a GPU driver update could make a difference. Have you checked if there are newer versions for you?

I updated my drivers and still crashes

Oh well, maybe someone will come up with something else. In the meantime, you could read
http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/939841
and see if there's something you could try.
For the moment, uninstalling and reinstalling b256 (or b283!) may be the thing to do.

edit: Just had a bit of trouble myself opening a test project with video FX at the beginning. OK when I lowered my Preview settings. Just thinking aloud...

Thanks for the help vkmast. I may try to redo the project from scratch in build 283 since it's not a large project and see if I have any problems. If I do I will re-install 256.

Hi Steve,
You're not alone. After installing 283 I would get the same crash every time I opened one of my existing projects. I did the "clean reinstall" instructions to totally reinstall SVMS and then I was able to open existing projects once again. But, I still get a crash when I try to edit any of the titles in an existing project that had Shadow enabled. I also get a crash if I add new text media and then enable Shadow in the Sony Titles & Text plugin.

It looks like the legacy text plugin with soft shadow still works, so I'll probably use that for now until Sony can find a solution for the problem or I have more time for troubleshooting.

PS. I did a little more testing and found out that my issue (crash when enabling shadows in the Sony Text & Title plugin) doesn't happen when I use the HD 1080 -60i template.. So I'm suspecting the Shadow enable is trying to generate shadow for text too large for the screen or something.

Hi Sean

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. I had the title shadow effect also in the project. I guess next time I will wait a couple weeks before downloading the newest build. Hope Sony gets a fix soon!

PS I can definatley confirm that the shadow effect is causing a crash. I tried making
a media generator title and when I clciked on enable shadow it crashed.

Mine started crashing as soon as I checked the "shadow' box and now after a computer restart and reinstall Vegas crashes on startup. What a great program.

Guess I'll just have to wait or use the old version then, besides the crashing what's the benefit of this newer version anyway?

Hello,

It is my first time (exactly 2 days) using VMS HD (build 283). When I was learning about inserting "titles and text" and I tried to use "shadow", VMS crashed. Always I try, always VMS crashes. So, I am in same situation of people in this thread. Does anyone have a good way to solve it? Does anyone receive an official Sony tip about handling it?

Thanks

As Sean Serrels stated in a previous post, the legacy text plugin with soft shadow still works. That's the best we can do for now I guess.

Thanks for answering. Now it’s is clear for me “legacy text” is working. One question: I am new in Vegas and I didn’t make many tests, but seems to me that only advantage of "titles and text" over ““legacy text” is to animate individual properties of the text separately and to move text directly on the preview screen. Besides text animation and screen movement, is there any great advantage in "titles and text" over “legacy text”? Best, Cadu

I have just bought Platinum 11 after using 8 for sometime. After the first install it immediately crashed. I restarted and downloaded the latest version, 283 and although it works, when I try to open some previous projects created in Vegas 8 they do not get past 7%. I have to go into task manager to terminate the program because it completely freezes.

I also have an mpg file that plays ok in various media players but when i try to import it into vegas it just freezes, forcing another visit to task manager.

I had a similiar experience after doing a reinstall of Windows 7 and all my programs. An incomplete project I started in VMS 11 Platinum build 283 didn't open when I went in again after the reinstall. After much sweating since it was a 40 minute film that was almost done, I found that updating codecs fixed the issue I was having with an AVI file in one part of the project. I installed the latest DivX player and related codecs and everything was back to normal and the project opened fine. Of course I had DivX on the computer before the reinstall so maybe something was being remembered behind the scenes?

Just had some more time to troubleshoot this issue. I couldn't find anything that would reliably allow me to use Shadows with the Sony Text & Titler plugin. This meant that I could use the Legacy Text plugin for any new projects but any old projects from b256 that I tried to open in b283 would crash SVMS immediately.

So, I went ahead and reinstalled b256 to ensure that this was a problem in b283. I can now add the shadow effect to Sony Text & Title media in b256 as well as open my old projects without having SVMS crashing. Frustrating but I guess I'll continue to watch to see if they update b283 to resolve the problem.

Same problem. How do you access the Legacy Plug-In?

How about the new bluetitler for shadow effects?

BTW I tried shadow again on 283 and it failed within just a few seconds. Don't know why it didn't the first time I tried. Definately a bug, well, here hoping that fix is in the works. Sony appears to be pretty good at fixing this type of stuff.
