Let me see if I understand what you are doing.

You have a jpg still photo that you are using as a background. So it is on a track.

Then you are adding "media" as picture in picture. How are you doing that - are the "media" generated media, or are they other photos?

How are you adding the "media" to be picture in picture?

Are the added "media" on separate tracks?

And we really need to know what format you are rendering to.

Media is on seperate tracks and I'm clicking on the track motion button and resizing media to fit on the background image. I streched the image on the track so it matched the length of the media tracks.

Where did you find a template called "Windows Media Player"?

If you mean Windows Media Video, that is not the best way to upload to YouTube.

Are you by any chance using Vegas Movie Studio?

I'm sorry I ment I'm trying to render in the .wmv format or one that will let me save it so I can upload to UTUBE. Right now I'm clicking on all the formats in the render as window, when click on one the renderas button is not able to save.

It sounds like you could benefit from watching some of the tutorials on YouTube about how to use Vegas for YouTube.

Go to YouTube and do a search for:

sony vegas youtube tutorial

and watch some of the choices.

In the Render As dialog box, there are a lot of different formats, such as Windows Media Video. Until you have selected a template, you won't be able to render.

If you want to use Windows Media Video, click on the little arrow to the left of the W in Windows, that will expand the template choices. Choose one of them, and left click on it, so it turns blue on your screen. Then the Render button is enabled.

This should be described in the online help.

I started from scratch I used the same media file and the same image file for background. This time I only added 1 media file to picture in picture and not two media files. I was able to render it in windows media format, I guess you can't add two media files in picture in picture and the same backgound image.

I've done 4 video files over a background image and had no problems so I have no idea why you're having issues doing what you want to do.

Can you tell us exactly how you are doing the picture in picture? Is it an option you are finding in a menu?

I don't know what I'm doing eather, right now I'm just trying to save a video in windows media format.
I put a media file in the timeline and click file render as then I click Windows Media Video and the render button is not highlighted to render as. Do I have to save the file first to my hardrive and then render as?

Forgive me for butting in here, and also forgive me for assuming that riverbed is new to Vegas and should start with the absolute easiest way possible to get a Picture in Picture video to YouTube.

So, I quickly whipped up this "easiest way" tutorial that might get him (her?) started. Please pardon the subtle errors in nomenclature & the crappy sound (I did this using my laptop mic).
