Notes on Stabilization

It has been a while since I used stabilization, so I had to figure out why it wasn't working. I had forgotten that I changed the pixel format in Preferences from 8 bit to 32 bit full. When I applied stabilization (the button), I got a quick flash of the progress dialogue window and then it returned back to right before the button click. I thought that if I pressed the apply button several times real fast, I might be able to read the text. Nope, that just crashed VP 11. So, I took a coffee break and scratched my head.a little.

Then I remembered that I had set the pixel format from 8 bit to 32 bit. Hmmm, that might not work in the software. Made some sense to me. So, I changed it back and hit apply. Back to the stabilize window... I hit that apply and the progress window stayed up and proceeded to process my clip. Checked it out, and it worked just fine. A 35 minute clip was stabilized in about 25 minutes. I guess my upgrade paid off.

After the stabilization, I changed the pixel format back to 32 bit and the richness returned and the video was still stabilized.

Now, it's late and I may be missing something, but no where was I able to find that 8 bit needs to be set for stabilization to work. Sure would have been nice to have a pop up window that said... Check your pixel format and set it to 8 bits.

Maybe this note will help someone?

Two big projects to go and then I'll try moving off build 425 to the latest upgrade and give it a go.

g'nite all,
