OT: VLC can play DVD iso's.

I just realized something that I'm going to use all the time now. That is that VLC (and some other media players) can play images of DVDs like they are DVDs. Just open the iso like it is a file and it plays like a DVD. That will make archiving DVDs and Bluray discs one heck of a lot easier!

Maybe this is old news to others here, but to me this is way cool!

There are a couple streaming/set-top devices that can handle ISOs, too. Oppo's Blu-Ray players were among them until the industry got them to remove the (unadvertised) feature; useful for playing backed up 3-D Blu-Ray content without fiddling with discs, as ISOs and discs are the only way it'll work at present.

That is a nice tip. Thanks!

I've done this to check ISO's for something that I've done before but archiving DVD's this way seems kind of redundant: I can just keep the video folder & it will play that like a DVD too (for DVD's I've made) or I can just keep it on DVD.

Great. So what is VLC ?

OK found it by searching "VLC Media Player". Thanks for the tip.

And wouldn't it be super if CD Architect could also write to ISOs. Not holding my breath ....

We did find a minor "feature" in VLC here recently with ISO files. If you have a menu that has an intro before going into the menu, VLC skips the intro and goes direct to the menu. Just something to be aware of.

I sometimes wish my hardware player had that feature! :)
