A previous post recommended "optimizing your machine for a DAW enviornment" (other than just having good hardware). Can someone tell me what the heck that means?

Hello,

There is alot to explain but for starters make sure your drives stay defragmented, and make sure your drives are recognized properly by your BIOS, for example look for things on bootup like HARD DISK 1= UDMA ATA66 or similar. Also don't have a lot of programs starting when Windows boots up, example down by your clock any icons that show up there are programs running in the background, and will slow you down, turn them off by either exiting them after starting Windows, or going into options for each program and deselecting "Start when Windows starts".

There is much more, make sure you have the newest Direct X installed, and all your divice drivers are the newest available, and that your not sharing any IRQ's for your sound cards, or video cards.

Also Iacobus has a link that he posted in a different thread, When he see's this I'm pretty sure he will repost it for you.
If I think of more I will post again, but right now my fingers are tired of typing.LOL

See ya, Rockit

TA-DA!

:)

NOTE: The above link is for users of Win 9x. Allegedly, this is still the platform of choice for many musicians/enthusiasts (for now anyway).

Oh, if you're wondering, DAW stands for, "Digital Audio Workstation."
