I know that SF doesn't recommend sound cards...so what are people using out there for themselves. I'm in the process of looking for a replacement for my SB128 PCI in an effort to remedy crashes with ACID 3.0 Pro. Turtle Beach Systems: Any good? Others? |

Depends, do you want an all-in-one card? Most of those will be 16 bit only (TB cards are 18 bit). 24 bit/96kHz cards have really come down in price lately. I've got an Echo Mia. Others have Audiophile 2496 cards. The Audiophile 2496 seems to have alot of driver issues, judging from previous posts. Select "SEARCH" above this post, and look up "sound card". You should see lots of posts. HTH Later. |

Actually, I don't have any problems with my Audiophile 2496, but I'm using Win 98 SE, so... :) 24/96 cards are nice. You might not want to go back once you've tried one. For $159.95, you can pick up an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 at Sound Chaser Don't need MIDI? The Echo Mia is a great choice at $189.95 at the same location. You might have trouble getting those cards, so be a little patient as they typically sell out quickly. (Note: This is not an endorsement of Sound Chaser per se, as I've bought from them myself and find their service to be great. Just passing info along.) Since these cards are geared towards professionals, be aware these types of cards don't have the typical mini-jack connection to your speakers that you're used to on the SoundBlaster and compatible cards. The Audiophile, for example, has L/R analog RCA outs as well as a S/PDIF coaxial out for digital connections. The Mia has 1/4" outs and a S/PDIF coaxial out. If your present computer speakers don't have this type of connection, you can use your home stereo. That, or spring for a pair of super-expensive-but-really-nice studio monitors. :) Iacobus |
