Am I correct in my understanding that beatmapper determines an average tempo for the beats in question, and then applies that tempo to the whole project; or does it actually "map" where each individual beat is located throughout the project?

You are correct. The beatmapper only uses an average tempo and does not take into account exactly where each beat is. So, if the beat is off in a few places you will have to line those beats up manually by splitting the event and sliding it so that it lines up with the grid.

As you probably know, in the beatmapper wizard, if you adjust one measure it effects all other measures. I think this is a major down fall of Acid's beatmapped tracks. I wish they would make it so you can tell Acid exactly where each beat is in the song. Maybe some one else knows it trick on how to accomplish this, but I don't think it can be done.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Hopefully, Sonic Foundry will model us a new tool along the lines of Pro Tools Beat Detective which actually maps the beats and gives you the tempo between each beat.

Take care!
