Thanks for your money. Now piss off!

One week after I bought version 11, Sony released version 12.
When I inquired about getting an upgrade I was told essentially pay $150 or piss off.
A year and a half later I discovered a problem with one of their rendering codecs in that it puts a green line down the right side of any rendered video. When I contacted tech support I was told they don't support my 1 1/2 yr old software any more and that I need to pay $249 for an upgrade in order to get it to work.

Really? Is this the type of support I can expect from the mighty Sony Corporation for its flagship editing software product?

I have the entire Adobe Creative Suite. I think maybe I'll take Sony's recommendation and piss off.
Time to learn Adobe.

That's unfortunate. Was that literally Sony's response? I'm guessing that you hadn't bought v11 from Sony. Perhaps if you describe in greater detail your rendering problem someone here will be able to help.
Lovelight wrote on 7/11/2014, 11:39 PM
Yeah, I had the same response from Sony with known bugs that travel from Vegas version to the next.

enjoy adobe... i didn't - read their forums....

as for green line, well you give no details, but i'm betting it's pal and it's because you're using the wrong frame size.

of course, since you're going to adobe nuff said ;-)

I'm going to call nonsense here, the following is and always has been Sony Creative Software's official position on upgrades:

https://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2336/kw/upgrade

"If you purchase a Sony Creative Software application 30 days before or 30 days after our direct launch of a new version of that program from one of our licensed resellers, you are eligible for a free upgrade to that current newer version of the software.

Regarding the green line problem, a quick and simple search of the forum produced this:

Having "sat" on an issue for what, 18 months, you join this Forum to spew your vitrial and mention other bodily excretions and in your very first post?!?

I did you the respect of viewing any other postings you'd made, under that "name". Guess what, I couldn't find any. But you already knew that, didn't you.

So, what is it you want from us?

I'm with Grazie & John Cline on this one.

This forum can shed light on many issues, if you put in a little effort. For instance, searching "green line" on this forum can eventually lead you to this thread, where I had the same issue and perhaps unsurprisingly, I received some great advice from wise and helpful forum members, problem solved.

it is true though, as a rule, that SCS and probably most software houses stop development and bug fixes once a new version comes out. However, I believe SCS did produce an update to a previous version about a year ago, so the rule is not absolute.

A green line in the output is often traceable to one of two things:

1. Incompatible modulus. Make output dimensions divisible by four. Don't encode anamorphic to legacy codecs.
2. Codec is unhappy with GPU render. Turn it off.

If you want peer support here, read carefully John Cline and Grazie's comments.

I totally agree with Grazie comments. Slack Media as your first post, this is what
you start with? i could mention a lot more issues here with your post, but its
irrelevant.
If you can tell Sony Creative software to piss off and then openly embrace Abobe's
ludicrous ransom approach to their software subscription, something is seriously
wrong with you. So, good luck with Adobe!

Consider Adobe's track record:

Sony releases the XAVC codec a few months after Adobe releases CS6 and Adobe uses this as an excuse not to support it. You can only use footage from the Z100, AX100 for example in Adobe CC.

Adobe then forces longtime customers to use their software on a lifetime subscription plan alienating users who paid thousands for updates over the years.

In contrast I've found Sony's policy extremely flexible over the years from affordable updates to transferring old versions of the software to selling licences.

I can't believe that Sony would take that approach to you as a customer. I have always received excellent service from Sony when I had a problem. Perhaps somebody representing Sony should step in and resolve the issue, because I am sure some misunderstanding has occurred here.

"Perhaps somebody representing Sony should step in and resolve the issue"

I'm not sure that there is a legitimate issue here. If he had purchased Vegas through an authorized dealer and SCS released a new version within thirty days of his purchase, then he would have received the update for free. It's pretty straightforward. There's probably more to the story than he has told us.

Had he done a simple search of the forum, he would have discovered the cause and solution for his green line problem, posts started to appear pretty much immediately after the problem surfaced.

I don't know what Sony could have done to resolve the issue, as the comedian Ron White says, "You can't fix st*pid." I also find it suspicious that the OP just registered for forum access the day of this, his first and only post.

Adobe fan-boy, or staffer ?

geoff
Serena Steuart wrote on 7/14/2014, 8:24 PM
It's noticeable that the OP hasn't posted again. It is clear that the misunderstanding was his and he just wanted to sledge Sony (rather than get a solution to his rendering problem).
Steve_Rhoden wrote on 7/14/2014, 11:33 PM
Noticed also that this OP had not posted anything or responded since his initial
rant... Obviously a solution was not the intention, but just to rant and promote the
competition.

On other forums it has been said that competitors are joining support forums in order to slag off the company, this looks suspiciously like that.

Yeah, the OP was probably trolling. And, yes, I hope he enjoys the the uncomfortably long and arduous learning curve of everything adobe. And the lack of logic. And quriks and weirdness.

well reading the adobe forums i don't think they need any outside help ;-)

That's been going on for many years. As often as not, it turns out to be an evil fanboy rather than someone actually working for the competing company.
