Subject:Mixdown question

I've been studying up on mix prodeedures and how to put each intrument in it's own space. I use Vegas audio to record my band then I import it into acid and add cool sounds. Then on some songs I'll write the demos using acid drums and sometimes that ends up being the finsished drum tracks.

So my question is are Acid drum and other tracks already mixed? I was doing some placement on some acid track and noticed that they're already in stero and usually have a very full, stereo, mixed sound to them. Should I still apply the same mixing tricks such as cutting some of the 250 to 400Hz range to make room for the bass. Seems to me that tip applied to the kick drum only. But when working with acid drum loops there is often a whole kit involved on one track.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Todd

A very good question indeed. Actually, this sounds like a question to also post in the Sound Forge forum as well.

I would think it would depend all upon the loops and samples as you've described too. Hmmm...

Most drum loops available are already mixed with maybe additional hihat,ride,percussion-loops etc. The only available set with access to individual sounds within a mix is http://www.discretedrums.com/ as far as I know.
It's fairly expensive, but you can get cut-down versions.

well I would say it is true it depends on the drum track its self but if it is a clean acoustic kit then maybe try mixing the bass and other instruments around the loop and see if the loop its self mudds up the bass or they might blend nicley but still if it dosent I wouldnt hurt to cut out like 55hrz down out cause it wont enterfer with the cymbles at all they aint even in that range so just play with it...
