I meant thank you on the condolences and copying. He just loved to come on here. I am going to be copying dvds he made for the kids. I only have one copy of them and I was afraid I might lose them if I copied them wrong.

My sincere condolences. I did not know your husband, but we all helped him, and we are here to help you.

If your goal is to take an existing DVD that your husband made, and then make more copies, this is usually done using "burning" or "authoring" software. There are many programs that can be used for this, but you should look for Nero, ImgBurn, or Roxio. Once you find the correct program, you run it, and then look for the copy option. Most of these programs work very simply: it asks you to insert the original DVD which it then copies to a temporary location on the computer's hard drive. When that copy is finished, the program asks you to insert a blank disc. It then "burns" the data onto that disc. Once the disc is burned, you will probably want to put a label on the disc. If you need help with that step, just ask.

One "trick" that may be helpful, not only to find out which program he used for this, but also what other programs he ran most recently, is to open Windows Explorer (the file manager) and navigate to this folder:

C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch

Click on the Date Modified column to sort the names so that the most recent items are shown first. This list shows each program that is installed on your computer, and when it was run. The ones that were run during the last few times he used the computer should give you a clue as to which programs he was using most frequently.

I used this "trick" myself to determine which programs a person used just before they died suddenly. It involved a similar circumstance, and it was a close family member ...

We are very sorry to hear of your loss. Few of us here have ever met each other, but we share a closeness from all the things we have shared over the years.

Just so you know, you can't damage a DVD just by putting it in a computer and trying to copy it - unless it was made on DVD-RW or DVD+RW media. Look at the disk and see if there is any identification near the center of it. DVD-R and DVD+R media can't be damaged.

Tom, I am new at this, did I just post a message to you on the main form? Thanks for your help and Condolences. I have been scared to dive into it, but he has been gone 6 weeks and I have to get back to work. I was also wondering. In Vegas Pro. he had his windows set up view, timeline and source bin. I deleted the source bin and trimmer and he showed me a script he made to make it work, but not sure what I am looking for.

I have mine but his is a whole different territory. Thanks being willing to help. I will need a lot in the next few month as I finish up the projects we had and the new ones. The bad thing about this whole thing is me and Paul just started a new advertising campaign this month. I do know he uses Nero. I will look that up the programs, thanks for the tip, I am sorry John for your loss. It really throws you for a loop when it is so sudden. He was only 49 years old.

Microsoft has changed the names for various things as it updated its operating system from Windows XP to Vista, and then to Window 7, Windows 8, etc. In the old XP operating system (which I still use most of the time) it is called "Windows Explorer."

I don't have Windows 8, but a quick Google search reveals that Microsoft, for absolutely no useful reason, did change the name to File Explorer. Hopefully they did not also decide to mask the Prefetch folder. However, if they did, don't waste any more time looking for it. Instead, since you remember him using Nero, go to that and look for the Copy option.

The Nero user interface has change a lot over the years, and I am still using a 10-year-old version that works fine for me. As a result, however, I can't give you step-by-step instructions on how to use a more modern version. However, my original general advice still applies: look for a "Copy" or "Disc Copy" option. Make sure you select DVD (not CD). Click on whatever button or prompt starts the operation, and then follow the prompts.

My deepest condolences. My younger brother, age 50, died unexpectedly on October 20. His death left many unanswered questions for our family. Losing a loved one is so very painful.

Regarding copying or reproducing a DVD, there are many ways depending on whether you are computer savvy or slightly-less-than-confident.

If you are less-than-confident, you might consider using a utility software. A few have been mentioned in this thread. I will add one more: BurnAware Premium. It costs about $40 and you can trial it for free. There are many totally free ways to get the job done, but I find BurnAware very clear in the choices it gives you. For example, there is an icon that says COPY DISK. Very simple and reassuring!

You may be feeling overwhelmed with Vegas Pro right now. When you have a few minutes, be sure to watch these free tutorials and webinars on Vegas Pro and DVD Architect, etc. They will help you get your bearings in Vegas.

I noticed on your post that he uses Nero, seems that a good start to do copy DVD disk.

There are so many tutorials can be found on the web on how to do something, and Vegas Pro has several alternative ways in order to do something.

Kimberly, Thank you for sharing about you loss. I can now say I understand what you are going through. I had a friend read the stages of grief to me and it really helped me understand- but does not take the pain and empty place that is left. My belief in the Lord has helped a lot. May the Lord be with you and your family at this time. Thank you for the links and I am feeling very overwhelmed with Vegas Pro. I have used it only on a few projects. I am so glad you did on DVD Architect because I have been tying to look at Paul's last projects to see how he did it and I got frustrated.

Dear Setiawan, Thank you for welcoming me, I have been thankful for all the wonderful condolences and help. I have been dreading getting back to work because I have been very afraid. I have 2 transfer projects I have to get done this week so now I have to face my fears and start. I never did any of the Transfers so I am having to learn how to do it.

I just wanted to say I was so excited I learned how to take pictures and video off the memory stick and to delete them. Yea.
