I will do some accoustic recordings and bring it into present Acid projects wich already have drum tracks based on 16-bit loops. 1)Is it possible to have a mix of 16/24 bit loops/waves within the same project? 2)If yes, is it better to do plug-in effects with 24-bit source-files, I was thinking that any processing usually benefits from higher bit-rates. 3) Will going to 24-bit have an adverse effect on the CPU, I have an Intel 1.7GHz/256MB Ram PC with all audio files on a separate harddisk. I have noticed that for instance processor-hungry Wave-plugins will choke the playback when too many tracks use these plug-ins. |

1) Yes. 2) You are correct. Using 24-bit can make an acoustic recording that much more faithfully reproduced due to the extra processing headroom. Using 24-bit effects even on 16-bit source files benefit for the same reason. 3) Yes and no. It all depends on the complexity of the project (number of tracks, types of tracks, number of effects, etc.) and what type of effect is used. That's a really powerful system and should do the job just fine. However, ACID is not a true multitrack editor like the Vegas products are. But, you can get away with choking playback problems by mixing/bouncing down tracks using CTRL+M on your keyboard. Remember to solo the tracks you intend to bounce down together first. All or any applied effects will be included in the newly rendered track and ACID won't have to apply the effects on the fly at that point. I've heard the Waves plug-ins were notoriously resource-hungry, even on a really fast system. Iacobus |

Thanks for the comments, I will go for 24-bit when I do my proper accoustic/vocal recordings. And yes, I already do some mix-downs when preparing my drum tracks. I could always make some fake mixes if the cpu starts to choke. On a side note, I have noticed you have been really helpful in these forums. Keep it up. Erik |
