Q: Typewriter/fade-from-left effect? MSP13

Hi all. I'm trying to create text in a video that either appears one character at a time like a typewriter, or have each line simply fade in from the left one after the other. The aim is to make it look like character speech text in video games.

There are no suitable presets in the titles & text tool (they're all far too fancy), and while using keyframes to make characters appear one by one does work it is far too labour intensive for the project I have in mind.

I'm open to pretty much any suggestion that doesn't involve spending exorbitant amounts of money - my project is a non-starter if I can't find an efficient way to do this.

A basic example of what I want to achieve (try to ignore the awful audio):

Edit: I'm using Movie Studio Platinum 13.

One way to do this: add a "cooke cutter" effect as a large rectangle that obscures a line of text, with it's center at the right-most character; then animate the rectangle size so that it shrinks (revealing the text from left to right) over the desired time span.

You could also look at using the "credit roll", when its "effect" is set to be "Timed Sequence" and the "Effect parameter", "in", set to be "Wipe in Right" it will reveal the text from left to right.

Another approach to investigate: Right click ahead of your text event on the timeline, insert an "empty" event, and overlap them; then set the transition to be "Linear Wipe".

Best of luck with your project.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a try as soon as I get a chance.
