I've heard the best is Win 2000. I'm using ME, and not too thrilled with it. What's the deal with 2000, there's a "Professional" version and a "Home" version, right? I've heard the Pro version has a lot baggage for offices irrelevant to the music user and you should just get the "Home" version. Who knows of what they speak on these weighty matters? |

I don't know I use Win2k Pro I LOVE IT! I am waiting for WinXP pro sp1 before I convert my Win98se system over to see how it runs. We had a test system with Win ME it was NOT stable, so that's why we went to Win2k. I would recommend that if you do go Win2k install as standard PC mode. I did fix some skipping I had with my MOTU-1296 @24bit. Good luck: George Ware |

There is no Windows 2000 Home Edition. Windows 2000 comes in Professional and Server editions. There is an XP Home Edition and an XP Professional. |

FWIW, I'm using Windows XP Home and no problems thus far with ACID Pro 3.0 and Sound Forge 5. (I have XP tweaked a little too.) Note it'll probably be also dependent on your hardware. Check to see if drivers are available before taking the leap. Iacobus |

I was a little leery to jump into XP with all the potential compatibility bugs not worked out. Sounds like Win2kPro is the safest bet. BTW, are there any specific problems with Win ME/Acid I should know about? It seems like a short-term disposable OS that never got fixed right befor MS decided to move on and leave a trail of dead behind. |

A friend of mine uses Win Me and ACID Pro 3 and hasn't had any apparent problems to speak of. I think the biggest complaint with Me is that it is, from a user's perspective, a rather incremental upgrade from Windows 98 SE. I personally don't know why MS even bothered, maybe just to hold their home user base over until XP. Even then, I waited (patiently) to upgrade from Win 98 SE. Iacobus |

I've been using Windows XP Home with Acid Pro 3.0f, Sound Forge 5.0f, and Vegas Video 3.0a with ZERO problems or weird error messages. I've done a clean install of all the programs and got/continue to get all the updates from Microsoft's Windows update site. All drivers are current with all hardware. I defragment the hard drive regularly. Maybe this is why I'm having no problems. Maybe I'm just lucky. Windows XP is very stable im my opinion. Here's the heart of my system: AMD Athlon 1.3 gig processor 768 Megs PC 133 RAM Maxtor 60 gig HD 7200/100 Good Luck! |

Well, that's good to hear that the XP/Acid marraige is stable. I'm not sure other audio apps are as happy with it, from what I've seen on other forums. I've had all manner of pops and glitches in ME with a similar rig to yours, so I want out! |
