I have that exact same model of CD-burner, and I've sometimes had the thing overheat during long burn sessions, to the point where it refuses to write a CD until it cools off. Also, since it's older, it can be picky about the media type. Some discs will burn at the full speed (6x) with no problems, while others require me to set the speed to 4x or 2x (especially 80min CD's). When writing the lead-in, the power calibration doesn't "catch", resulting in the drive rejecting the disc. Slowing the burn speed seems to be the only workaround in that case. Therefore, either let the burner rest for a while, or set it to a lower speed when writing media. Hopefully one of the two will alleviate the problem. Oh, and BTW, how are writing at 8x?
